1987 30hp rubber tube in lower end

I removed the lower end off my 30 hp Yamaha to have the skeg rewelded. Want to put it back on am wondering where the 6" rubber tube is attached to the upper unit. It is attached to the back end of the lower unit inside the housing above the skeg. The rubber hose appears to have a black elongated nipple on it that has a clipped off tie wrap attaching it to the hose. Does the tube just sit in the housing ( unlikely ), attach to something up above, or? When I dropped the lower end I didn't have to disconnect it off anything

its a speedo pickup. if you dont have a speedo its not used and routes up and out at the shifter shaft hole in the midsection.

Thanks for the info. I don't have a speedometer, can I just disconnect the brass fitting attaching it to the bottom end?
