Re: 10,000 question on fuel to the forum

dude
while I apperciate the feed back and glad I can help I am just an old tech hanging out cause my artheritis gets to me, that and I get lazy :) :) .
lots of dedicated folks about the forums, I just happen to work more with yamaha than the rest now.
most of what I post can be done by a monkey.
some actually requires thought.
if you have basic hand tools, a multi meter and common sense coupled with the Z200 service manual your set.
if you dont know the history start with cooling system tuneup, that will include water pump, pressure valve grommet and t-stats. then on to the fuel system tuneup. that will include medium pressure filter,VST filter and the engine block and hull filters. I reccomend changing the low pressure fuel pumps evey third season.
there are a few tools and materiels required.
tell me what ya got and how much you know.
for the TPS and O2 sensor you will need the yamaha test harness's, luckily they are not very expensive. if you have gray coil connectors you should have twin electrode EKU style plugs, takes a wire feeler gauge and a special teqnique to set them but its not hard.

all the VST is is a fuel tank with a EFI style medium (50 psi) pump. other than that its not much different than the pump in a GM fuel tank.
an EFI style fuel pressure gauge is invaluable, lucky the kit can be bought for less than 60 dollars.
I personally rarely remove the VST for filters. just loosen the screws you can access, remove the three 10mm hex bolts that hold it to the block. take all the VST tank screws out and do what ya gotta do. sometimes the tank oring will swell and have to be replaced. use vasoline to hold the new one in place.
a neat trick I use at the 100 hour service is to bend the end of the little red tube from the carb cleaner can into a short 90*. then drain the vst. the push the tube into the drain hole and rinse off the pump filter.
