I have tried on my YAMAHA 8HP 1989 ( LONG SHAFT )to get the LOWER UNIT OFF... . After having removed all 4 bolts I can only seperate the lower unit from the rest of the leg by an inch and a half. When I try to pul it ..it causes the gear leaver to move back and forth. Is there anything else I need to loosen?? Many thanks for any help. Cheers, SHAFT )Mike :)

Thanks Ray..I have spent the day trying to figure out what needs to be disconnected. Have you any idea where the shift shaft can be disconnected. I really would be greatfull if you could point me in the direction. I have the SELOC manual which covers all Yamahas from 2 to 250 Hp. It made the job appear a whole lot easier tahn it's proving to be.

I haven't looked at one in over 10 years and my memory hasn't improved with age. Seems like there is a plate you remove in the midsection to unbolt a coupler. The few small motors I have worked on all seem to run together in my mind and I am not postive it was a Yamaha. Only thing for certain is it has to be disconected.
