hello all,
hoping to shed a little light on some electrical wiring for my yam F60AETL.
I have the SELOC manual however the wiring diagram does not seem to reveal all. I am trying to wire factory guages into a tiller steer harness. I have the gueages and forward control harness.
I believe that all I am missing is "on"power to the guage cluster.

The F50A diagram in SELOC shows engine start
switch as:
OFF - short white and black
ON - short red and yellow
ST - short red and yellow and brown

On my guage cluster I have many wires, just wondering if the 60 will have same wire colours as 50 thereby me shorting red and yellow to close the ON circuit when key in the tiller is at the on position is a feasible assumption.

The other perhaps easier answer would be if someone knows the input colours to the gauges, thereby I can work backwards...

Firstly which colour wire gives power to the guages

I believe tacho input is green and earth

What colour is the trim sensor input

What colour is oil alarm sensor input

what colour is water temp sensor

Fuel level is not needed

Thanks

Steve

Re: Yam F60A guage wiring

Hmmm,
just read my post, very confusing sorry everyone.

Have done some more looking and thinking and here we go:

from the outboard to the gauges i have a multi core wire with 8 wires (connects into harness with two multi plugs)
These 8 wires are coloured:
pink
orange
grey
black
green
red/white
blue/white
green/red

now these wires then plug into a pair of multi plugs coming from the tacho, so i assume these feed all the info from the powerhead to the gauges (except speed from the pitot of course)

Now also out of the tacho I have leads:
yellow
green
blue
black

and out of the speedo I have:
black
white
red
yellow
blue
black

... so Im guessing I need to get power to the gauges through probably the yellow and black (earth) connections... and then link the blue wires. Im hoping the others will only be necessary with a forward control box.

Anyway does this help anyone

regards again

steve

Re: Yam F60A guage wiring

cant help ya much, we dont use that model number, your missing the yellow key on 12V lead from the ignition switch.
on the tach, yellow is for key on 12v,green is send for the tach cut I cant help you with the pole setting, black is earth, blue is tach light.
on the speedo
yellow is key on 12v,white is fuel sender input, red is constant 12v,black is ground, blue is guage lamp,
and I agree, sometimes the factory harness diagrams are a wee bit hard to read.
now for the outboard. this is where it gets jiggy.

as that engine is not used here I have never seen it, an ohm meter can help.
yam used pink for alarm audio and trim send, gray was an alarm visual that is used in some guages, orange is a 5V reference for the trim on the 3 wire sensor. green red is normally oil alarm visual.,
dont take this to the bank, its gonna be up to you to track the source of each wire.

Rodbolt,
thanks you heaps
I now have a good start.
I think stage one is get some power to the gauges using your yellow/earth and red suggestions then I will see how things go from there...
thanks again
Steve

Re: Yam F60A guage wiring

what color wires does your keyswitch have and is/was the switch mounted on the tiller ?

Re: Yam F60A guage wiring

The key switch is currently mounted on the tiller, uncertain of its wire colours as it uses the large round multi plug to interface with the power head. I will prob just use a switch on the dash where the guages are mounted which activates the yellow wire... that will then power up the gauges, and the signals will be sent from the existing 8 wire harness.

steve

Re: Yam F60A guage wiring

Rodbolt,
thanks for your instructions.
Have wired at up and all is seeming to be good. I needed to pick up the green tacho circuit and carry it to the gauges but other than that everything seems ok. Three quick questions:

firstly i did the test to check the water temp sensor, no dramas, warning light came on. I then tried to do the same for the oil pressure sensor, first i disconnected the wire, then tried shorting it to earth, neither gave a warning signal on the tach gauge???? Is it possible to test this circuit?

Second, can I assume that if the warning lights come on the dash then the motor will go into protect moded 200rpm... or is it safest to do the test under real conditions above idle?

And finally, the trim gauge wasnt working so I traced it and it seems the sensor is seized, i tried to free it but figured a replacement wouldnt be too bad so bolted it back on then rang the parts shop... they want $270AUD thats like $200 US... so besides looking for a 2nd hand sensor any tips on getting this one working again, any danger in removing and soaking in penetrating oil etc etc

thanks again for all your help

Steve
