Searching for information on a very old outboard motor. The motor is a Buccaneer 25 HP from Gale Products in Galesburg, IL. Would like to find a Owner's manual.

Re: Buccaneer 25 HP Manual

Michael, They have a wealth of information on old outboards at http://www.aomic.org

This is the Antique Outboard Motor club site.
They have a section to post questions. This is from a post by Garry (Thanks Garry, I hope you don't mind that I copied this)on the history of Gale. Sorry it does not give you a link to order a manual, but they also have a links section that may help, or you may be able to post the question there and get an answer. -Scoop

"In 1929 The man who had just bought Evinrude Talked to Ole about merging the companies with Lockwood Motors and forming a big company. It would be to outboard motors what General motors was to cars. And this was how Outboard Marine Corperation was born. OMC survived the great depression in good enough shape to buy out Johnson when they filed for bankrupsy. They got contracts to build outboards for Montgomery Wards (Sea King) and Eaton department stores (Viking) and set up a new devision to handle the business in Galesburg Illinois. It was called Gale Products and built motors for many stores.

Your Buccaneer is the brand that Gale sold under it's own name. They generally used Evinrude and Johnson designs that were a few years old, and sold quit a few. What makes your Buccaneer worth keeping is, many parts are still available through Evinrude and Johnson dealers. Also since Gale also made the Sea King, Sea Bee, Sea Flyer, Western Flyer, the Atlas Royal, the Fedway Saber, the AMC Saber, Gambles Hiawatha, Speagle Brooklure, and the Elto, parts from these engines will also fit yours."
