Re: homelites

Yep, that was me. I have a 1958 Dorsett Catalina and am looking for an older outboard to complete the package. I like what I've heard about the Bearcats, and was looking around to see what I could pick one up for. Thanks for the help!

Re: homelites

Any idea on the weight? Wonder if it could be palletized and trucked, or if a crate is necessary. Who's the major trucking outfit in your area?

Re: homelites

Hi guys. Watch out for DOT regulations. Outboard motors that have been in service are defined as hazardous material according to UPS.

Good luck.

JB

Re: homelites

Thanks for the heads up, JB. Think a 55 horse is too big to go UPS anyhow. Besides the fact the I wouldn't ship UPS if it was free! Many bad, bad experiences with them in the past.

Re: homelites

I happen to know of a freight company that could get it to you. Checkout www.EagleGL.com.

They are freight forwarders that specialize in large shipments. They have freight stations around every major airport. Rates are flexible. I would lookup the one nearest you for the best rate instead of trying the Nat'l 800 #.

------------------
Find the birds & you've found the fish!

Re: homelites

Thanks, BirdChaser. I e-mailed Eagle for a quote. Pinkmouse, if the freight isn't too awful, I'll take one! (The nicest of the two, of course!

Re: homelites

homie - er, uh i mean homelite... you brought this old old forum up to the top. thanx! i went thru both pgs. i would've emailed you, but my yahoo acct is broke, and i'm not at work to use my other email acct.

its great to find info on oldies but goodies, kinda makes me proud. i'm a believer in the 'good ole days' type machinery. i just don't always have the time to get into it. i would if i could. my neighbors give me a hard time for maintaining old stuff sometimes - old Jacobsen riding mower, homelite 50cc chainsaw, my wife's grandfather's Merry Tiller, 12hp Wizard outboard...

after reading your info it makes me think i would've gotten a motor from you when i replaced my old 1970 70hp chrysler with an 86 rude140hp, if i had been in your area and seen your stuff floating around ;)

thanx for the link

Re: homelites

to all,

looks like i've found the motherlode of Homelite fanciers. = count me IN with the Homelite/Bearcat/Fisher-Pierce fan club.

fyi, i'm currently near Fredericksburg, VA & i'm looking for a suitable Homelite 55 for my 16 foot, 1962 Starcraft Jupiter, which i am "tricking out" for rockfishing.

yours, PG

P.S. = if anyone here needs it, i have a stock Homelite gas tank, in good shape, for sale/trade.
(i'll be using a aluminum beer keg for my "working tank".)
