Model number would help but I figure it Was<br />built by Eska and uses a Tecumseh Power head.<br /> Thus my Certified Parts Corp reccomendation.

Do you mean no coil or you cant find Eska help?<br /> Ive been there and there are Eska parts but it takes a look around to find.<br />Im pretty sure Ive seen posts about manuals<br />and tech assistance but cant swear to this.<br />Just reread your first post,a 2 cylinder my be a Chrysler/Force give us a model number.

You can get a complete exploded view and list of parts and prices on the Sears website under parts. Just put in your model number.

Certified Parts Corp. doesn't list individual parts on their site. You have to call and speak to someone there. They're very knowledgeable and helpful, but you're going to need the model number for them to help you. If that's missing, you can get by with the engine number from the tag that's supposed to be on the engine.

That said, parts for the solid state ignition used on those Tecumseh 2-cylinder engines are almost impossible to find. The NOS units have all been sold to people years ago, since that ignition system was prone to failures. I don't think that Certified Parts Corp. has any of them left, and they're the prime source for Eska parts.

Your best bet will be to find a running parts engine with good parts. And that's a tough thing to find.

Just about everything under the flywheel is NLA (No Longer Available), although you can get replacements for the coils that mount on the cylinder head or find substitutes. But, the stuff under the flywheel is scarce as hen's teeth and cost about as much as the outboard's worth if you find them.

That's the CDI Electronics replacement for the OEM stator for the Eskas. There are a few places who have that item in stock, still, but I'm not sure CDI is still making it any longer.

The price runs around $250 retail. If you go to the CDI site and do a search, you can find dealers who stock the unit. It does work, but the price is awfully high, it seems to me.

Now, this won't look like the original stator in the outboard, because it's a re-engineered replacement. By all accounts, though, it does work. It is the replacement for all of the 9.9 and 15hp Eska-based 2-cylinder outboards that have solid state ignition.

High Speed Coil

I guess I never heard of a high speed coil, is there low speed coil?
I'm still looking for high speed muffler bearings and a drip-O-matic transmission for my zipcycle, it has dual flow double half back cut-ins and a pop 4, any help would be appreciated!

I don't have my manual for those engines any more, but I remember some weird names for stuff on the stator. There may have been two coils there, one for low speed and one for high speed, but I'm not sure. I know there were two coils and a module that fed the two external coils that were mounted on the cylinder head.

It's a CD system, with signals fed from the two coils, then timed and distributed by a solid state module.

I just finally gave up on them and sold the one I had, along with the manual. There was no way I was going to pay $250 for a re-engineered deal. The darned outboards don't sell for that much, even running well. Everyone's rightfully afraid of them.

My stock advice is to get rid of one if you have one and stay away from them if you don't. The magneto engines aren't so bad, but those solid state ones are a major PITA.

Chuck--That is a very good question. We often just call these components "stators" even though they have several separate and distinct coil assemblies. Usually there are three sets of coils:
Battery Charging Coil--A coil with a heavy gauge wire winding designed to produce considerable output voltage and current for generating a battery charging current. This coil is typically applied to a high-current rectifier and converted to pulsating DC, then controlled by a regulator and connected to the 12-volt battery operating the motor.

Spark Voltage Coil--A coil designed to generate the voltage applied to the primary winding of the spark plug coil. This coil may also generate the voltage for powering the electronics modules itself

Timer Base Coil--A coil intended to generate a pulse output typically for triggering a silicon controller rectifier (SCR) to fire the spark plug. It controls the ignition timing.

So when people speak of a Mercury stator having a high-speed and a low-speed winding, which of these three typical windings is being duplicated?

I enjoy 'fooling around' with the blue-collar air-cooled motor---Eskas included---but CAT's comments regarding the CD ignition models is as good as advice gets! Unless you are an EE they are a lose/lose deal.
