hey all, i recently aquired a 12hp motor by west bend (silver shark, 12hp, 4000rpm, model:12101, serial:1666) im having a hard time coming across repair info and general maintenanceinformation for it, id like a repair manual, but probably cant afford it unless its under $20- also, does anyone know what year this would be? im thinking early 60s, and does anyone know what fuel mix i should use? does 20:1 sound right?<br />thanks in advance!

Re: Need Advice/help/info for a 12hp West Bend

hey thanx for the info, this site has been extremely helpful so far, i just rebuilt my transom, and its working well. i can fix almost anything on land or water structure wise, but my mechanic skills are relatively basic, so when i start a new engine project, i nearly always dig up a manual for it. thanks again for the info though, ill check my library, but with the fuel mix info, i can at least get out fishing on saturday.

Acme Outboards has an Elgin-West Bend service manual for 56-60 that might cover your 12 hp pretty well, even though it is a 61. Elgin wasn't know for re-engineering the wheel every year or every other year like Carl Kiekhafer did with the Mercs of that era. Or the generic Outboard Service manual for outboards less than 30 hp, prior to 68-69, may also be an option. I have one, but can't remember if it covers the Elgins/West Bends...these are pretty common in libraries and readily available at some online sites for not much scratch.
