    MC-1 Drive Dog failure?

My 1979 drive has spacers between the opposing tapered bearings. Preload is set by shimming O.D. and I.D. spacers then torquing nut. I don't know when the change went to "Rolling" torque.

    Resurfacing marine plywood decking

CDX C=grade of finish one side, D=grade of finish other side (A being best in A - D) X meaning Exterior glue. It is Not Marine grade or treated. This was our 2nd time re-decking this Toon, first deck lasted 18 years with same grade plywood. Our Toon lived in covered dock, in water, six months of...

    Resurfacing marine plywood decking

We redecked our 24 ft Harris. Carpet was badly faded, worn and mildewed. We went back with CDX exterior plywood and glued Vinyl flooring with 1" risers between vinyl and railings. Also installed 3/8" risers between furniture and deck. We are loving the easy cleanup with garden hose. Everything...

    3L cobra idling too high

You may want to check the timing advance also. Advanced timing will increase idle RPM

    70’s Mercury 850 Thunderbolt - Distributor Wires

Rotor IS PART OF THE SHAFT. Do not attempt to remove it. Bearings are replaceable in that distributor. I may have the numbers if needed. CDI may have a test procedure 🤷

    70’s Mercury 850 Thunderbolt - Distributor Wires

There was a post several years ago about exactly the same problem. He carefully ground out the filler material (Dremel maybe) down to contacts and was able to solder new wires on . I don't remember what he used as a replacement filler. Mercurys of that era had terrible insulation on wiring...

    MC1 anodes

3 blade aluminum on pontoon and 4 blade on Mercruiser. Boats sit in water May to October, no electric at mine or surrounding docks. Our lake is run-off feed. I considered it a 7 mile long pond.

    MC1 anodes

Aluminum anodes didn't work at all for me in our sorta fresh water lake. Magnesium works very well. No more pitting on lower unit.

Anodes for Yamaha outboard...Zinc or Aluminum?

I'm in fresh water. My lower units on IO and OB had really bad pitting/deterioration . The aluminum anodes showed No deterioration. I switched to magnesium anodes, now I have no deterioration on outdrives.

    Going straight at low speed?

My Century 190 is bad with wandering. 4 blade prop with trim down (if possible) helps but still there. Agree with small movements of wheel.

    old mercury

I've a 1960 (300), 1965 (650) and 1975 (850). All have been good engines. The 300 and 650 have a magnito, which points are hard to find and expensive. The 850 has a distributor and switch box. Again expensive ignition parts if you can find them. Carburator parts (floats, gaskets, needle n seats)...

Rebuild old mechanical Fuel pump or go for Electric Fuel pump

I bought an electric fuel pump from eBay to move old fuel from my 30 gallon tank into 5 gallon can. Nope, never did work. Had to do the siphon thing, damn it tasted terrible. Three beers to rince my mouth.
