Hoping to get clarification on a Johnson 100 HP commercial outboard model J100WTLESM. Long story short, lower unit was stored for a while with water in it & most components pitted & are now trash. Decided on a fun project to gut & rebuild it but reading the Seloc manual for pinion bearing...
I think your explaining how to do this with an engine that has a control box and ignition key. The engine I have only has the momentary kill switch on the tiller as part of the grip which I just replaced due to a faulty switch which I confirmed was dead. I confirmed the new switch is...
Where am I checking continuity? Black/yellow stripe wire should have continuity to which terminal, ground? That was my thought but that's open, if that's true, then I'm guessing the power pack is toast.
Day off today to tinker and get house stuff done. Engine is running as I type this and I pulled the kill wires out of the boot so I could use a clip lead to short the black/yellow stripe wire to ground and she keeps on purring at idle. Thinking this is the power pack, everything else looks...
For the second statement, does this mean I should see continuity from the black/yellow stripe wire to the ground wire with the power pack removed from the engine? All the tests I've done have been with the engine off, not running.
Sorry for the delayed response, past couple days have been booked solid. Played around with the engine tonight and confirmed via my meter the switch is functional as installed since I just installed it due to bad switch.
On this engine, the switch wires go to the power pack plug and ground...
Hoping some folks can help me troubleshoot a 1983 Johnson 7.5 which does not kill with the kill switch. Model J8RCTA is the engine in question and I just finished installing a new kill switch in the tiller handle which checks out with a meter. My question is what is the next thing to...
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction on this one.
I'm working on a 1975 Johnson 50 model: 50ES75B that needs lower unit seals but the bearing carrier is being a pain. I have the 3 bolts removed from the inside but noticed my regular puller won't work due to the carrier not...
I'm trying to remove the powerhead off this motor to rebuild it as a fun winter project but cannot get the powerhead to budge! All bolts are out (I have triple checked myself) and the lower unit is off to prevent any sort of hang ups. Is there any trick to budging the thing?? It's very clean...
I rebuilt this engine (97 175 XR2 sport jet mercury power head) this past winter in my free time from college and it came out well and everything went smooth until I got to firing it up and timing it. It will not idle unless you manually hold the timing advance lever all the way and even then...
New to i boats.
I have a 1976 Hydrostream Vector that I got with a friend and we later found out that we shouldn't have gotten it with the problems it has! The floor was half assed repaired once already so it is 75% gutted and waiting for a core and a new floor. Don't know if I want to...
