1992 Suzuki DT55.This motor keeps fouling plugs after being poorly winterized last fall. With new plugs it runs well for a few minutes then it seems to oil foul them. The carbs are spotless. I don't have the manual yet. sounds like an oil pump problem to me but i don't know how to test anything...
Hi Folks,
My friend got a DT55 last year. I believe it's a 1990 model. It ran great last year and he had a handy man winterize it last fall. This year it's a different story. It has fresh gas and fresh oil in the oil tank. the problem is that it fouls the plugs in about 10 minutes.Three...
Hi Folks, I've read agreat deal on the use of plastic tanks and whether they become permanent tanks when they are over a certain capacity. I am now more confused than ever. I have just installed one 19 gal.plastic tank under the seat in my 17 foot Boston Whaler to replace the two 6 gal steel...
on a 1953 7.5 hp Elgin the manual calls for waterproof grease to lube the lower unit. I just opened it up to inspect it and i guess the previous owner drained it before he stored it 20 years ago. The case and gears are oily but grease free and corrosion free and the gears look brand new. What...
my newest find is an Elgin Outboard model number 571.58761 serial number 761 10974 or at least that is what the original owners manual says on the front in pencil. The motor is currently moving at 65 MPH thru Ws. in the back of my sister's van on it's way to me. What year was this one made...

In my 1949 Ke 4 manual it says to use "Permatex" to seal the water jacket gaskets. I haven't used that stuff in a long time and i remember it was really tough to remove that stuff. Is there a better and merc recommended product that i should be using or is Permatex still the required animal ?

Hi Folks,
Anyone how to install a temp gauge sender and gauge in this motor or if it is impossible to do ? If possible, what sender and gauge ?
Thanks in advance. Jerome
Any body know how involved it would be and how much it would cost me to replace two V-6 mercruisers in a 1991 30 foot Carver. I'm looking at buying the boat. The guy who winterized it last year didn't pump any antifreeze thru the blocks and the motors are toast. all four manifolds are shot and...
