Well seems it's time to start thinking about putting the boat to bed for the upcomming winter..problem is, I haven't a clue on what has to be done to winterize the engine..the stringer outdrive has been rebuilt and is drained of all fluid...any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks !!!
Well here goes...just got the upper gear case back together with 21/16 gears out of another unit..mine was 21/17..close enough..a full day of grinding with a Dremel tool to cut the rear bearing cup out..a little JB weld..shimmed and reassembled..spins nice..just mounted her back on the boat only...
Well, seems I got a rude awakening to boating..have posted prior so I won't go through it all...anyway..since removing the sterndive and poping off the upper gearcase..I gently tapped the gears out with a wooden dowel hoping not to damage anything..the upper horizontal shaft was missing the end...

Evening...need some help on removing sterndrive ..repair manual won't be in for a week..I know the shift cable has to be disconnected from the engine as well as disconnecting the battery just in case..!!..any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks
I have a 1981 Caravelle 305 gm 185 hp 800 stringer 1:1.50 drive..kids took boat out before i had a chance to fill gear oil...upper is shot..found a relacement(used) that seems to be in ok shape,but it is 1:1.25 drive...looks like it will bolt right on, but will it work..?? your thoughts would be...
