I'm considering a 2021 scout with a 150 merc 925 hours and everything I find is that is about the average half-life (2000h) of the motor vs. a yamaha which tend to average much higher. Price is a little higher than I want to spend and I'm concerned the hours are high. Any help is appreciated.
I hear ya Lou. They have a sale price going from 2.4k to 1.7 rn What they say sounds good but you never know. Just don't want to dump another 3.5 k into it bc you don't get that money back and I am tired of working on stern drives. Haven't been able to find anyone regionally that does engines...
So I found a reman with a decent sale price ongoing but want to know if anyone has experience or knowledge of United Engine I believe out of California but not sure. They don't post their corporate address.
Thanks. Yes, I have new 2 piece on my baddy rn. It is just the long block so I have to bring everything over. My only concern right now is the compression. That motor was an MPI with electronic ignition. I had carb and distributor with thunderbolt ig. I assume distributor will drop right in.
So I have a line on a cheap 2003 supposed mercruiser 090 block running engine, no manifold. Does the 090M stand for marine. How can I tell if it is marine and not just GM?
I found a place that does high performance and marine engines ~$2400 with core return, no intake manifold. Look to be a good deal includes shipping right now too. Tristarengines.com Any body have a critique? btw, already have new exhaust, starter, pressure / temp sensors etc.
Well it is all apart now. Not sure how other than visually. sterns are too much work. I think I may stick with a paddleboard, beach chair and an electric trolling motor. May even try a sheet on a stick. 😁
I don't know what part the thunderboat ignition plays in this but I never set the timing and one time I thought of checking the light didn't work. Not sure what to do with it yet. I guess get an estimate to have the heads looked over and the block redone first. Reman's are costly even at 4-5...
Well I can't def say the head gasket was blown but from these pics of the 0 compression #6 and the # 2 rusty cyl something may have been wrong before my water intrusion. Family was stating noise coming from the engine week before and my investigation of it may have led to the water intrusion...
I bought a 1999 in 2013. I don't know if it was exclusive to salt but likely being one owner. It sat for 3 during covid. I was getting worried the manifold was going to break through around the thermo housing, I've taken so much rust out of there. That's dishearting but I had been shopping...
