1989 Evinrude 30 2-stroke losing power at high RPMs

Sealed the cracked plastic with JB Weld and this year the boat ran better than it ever has. Blamed the motor all this time when it was contaminated fuel and a broken pickup tube.

This one is an Evinrude. Was not cheap even for plastic. Probably Chinesium.

1989 Evinrude 30 2-stroke losing power at high RPMs

I know about the vent on the cap, this is different, it's on the fuel pickup and gauge assembly, nothing is broken off, that's how it looked when I bought it new 5 years ago. It just didn't leak then.

1989 Evinrude 30 2-stroke losing power at high RPMs

I have found the closest thing to a smoking gun yet....I removed the fuel pickup to epoxy over the gauge window which was leaking, I found the pickup tube to be a very loose fit on the upper nipple and in fact it fell off as I lifted it out of the tank. So I fixed it with a fuel injection clamp...

1989 Evinrude 30 2-stroke losing power at high RPMs

Had not considered the crank seals. Will check spark again today, unfortunately I can only test in driveway with muffs so no load or full throttle. There is an accumulation of oily residue inside the lower engine housing but no signs of soot, would that be indicative of a leaking lower crank...

1989 Evinrude 30 2-stroke losing power at high RPMs

The guy who did the tune up did impeller, new oil in lower unit and plugs (last year) and the motor has only been run for a few trips since then. Been trying different tanks and hoses, new fittings on motor etc. Bought all new best we could find about 6 years ago. Thinking about splicing in a...

1989 Evinrude 30 2-stroke losing power at high RPMs

Have had issues with this motor off and on for that past 10 years, latest is losing power at high or full throttle. I rebuilt the carb today but there was nothing wrong with it, looked as good as when I rebuilt it 4-5 years ago. I also replaced the fuel pump although taking the old one apart...

    Plunge Choke etc

My son and I have a 70's Evinrude 35 (2 cycle) that we have used for years with very little issue. To start we would simply pull out the choke, crank till it starts then gradually push the choke back in as it warmed up. Last year we started to have some issues where the motor would falter and...

    Non Serviceable Fuel Pump?

Looking in the online service manual it says my fuel pump is non-serviceable. However I ordered a kit and tried anyway. Worked fine, started three of the bolts bolts into the back plate (backwards) to hold my diaphram and gasket in line with the holes, held the small plunger back thru the hole...

    Best fuel line

I am trying to buy a good fuel line (portable tank to motor) for my Evinrude. It is very confusing out there to know which brand is best. Is OMC still making them? I ordered one off Ebay that said "OMC" and instead I received a Seasense made in Taiwan.:grumpy: I looked on this site and could...

    Fuel hose Assembly

Where will I find the best fuel ine assembly for my Evinrude? I want a complete assembly compatible with ethanol blended fuels and no chintsy "Taiwan" parts.

    Test Tank

Can I use a 55 gallon drum for a test tank in order to run my Evinrude 30 to full throttle? I know I am not supposed to do it with the muffs. I actually have a 100 gallon water heater tank that I will cut open and end up with about 65-75 gallon capacity.

    Carburetor Identification

I want to order a kit and rebuild my carb on my 1989 Evinrude 30. I found a manual on Boatinfo that covers 4 carbs, type I, type II, type III and type IV. I can't tell if one of them is mine. Mine has a tag with "398080 MX 10 D M" and the top is stamped CM397632. I just want to get the right...
