Hi all, been a while but I'm back with a new toy. You read that right, I picked up a complete 1983 Mercury 4.5hp long shaft off craigslist for a whopping $10, and that was asking price. I ended up asking the guy 2 separate times that $10 was his asking price... i just couldn't believe it. So...
I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried using the Steelflex Super Slick Epoxy on their toons? It's designed for use on airboats and reduces the friction between the water and the bottom of your boat/pontoons. Just curious as to whether it would have much of an affect on pontoons. Since...
Hey all, It's been a while since I've been on the Iboats website--almost a year exactly. The late winter always seems to get me day dreaming about warmer summer days out on the lake. A little boating background... Last year I purchased an old 50's v-bow with an old 50's 35hp. After...
Simply put--I cross threaded the spark plug in the lower cylinder and I stripped the threads on the block.

Any idea's on what my options other then turning this motor into an expensive anchor?? Thanks!
So my 1958 Johnson 35hp is not running right. From what I have read on here, it sounds like it's running on only 1 cylinder. It idle's OK, not great at first but good enough to keep it from stalling. It idles better after running for 5 minutes.
I thought everything was OK so I take it out...

I had not touched anything. Just took the fly wheel off and snapped the photos. I actually didn't notice that until I was looking at...

OK, pulled the flywheel and the coils appear to be replaced. The light blue one does have a bit of corrosion on it, but the darker blue...
I see its a common modification to the old Johnyrudes, in fact--I bet it is the most common modification. What I don't understand is, why? I understand if you do not have the correct tank, lines, etc. it may be easier to convert then to find/buy all the pieces. Also I suppose if you want a...
Hey guys, happy weekend!
On this Saturday, I worked on getting my new-to-me Evinrude Lark up and running. I took the carb apart and cleaned it out and replaced a few seals... also checked the impeller. Put it all back together, and with some new gas mixed about 30-1 and a little persuasion...
Found this webpage when searching for my classic Evinrude, figured you Merc guys could use this info as well.

I was searching for service manuals for my 1957 Lark because I need to do some minor servicing of it... anyways, stumbled on this and thought it would be very useful to a lot of you folks out there.

So I am modifying an old 1950's Alumacraft 14ft boat with a 1950's 35hp evinrude lark. I have a used teleflex system scavenged from the gentlemen I purchased the motor from. It is the basic mechanical teleflex system known as The Rack.
On the end that mounts to the motor, there is the...
Hi all.
So I purchased this great classic motor this last Friday as a parts motor for my 1958 Johnson SeaHorse--as all the guy was asking for was $75. I picked up the motor, pressurized gas tank, all the wires, throttle cables, and a teleflex steering system... I thought it was such an amazing...
Ok, so I bought a 14ft aluminum boat in the fall of last year (1959 Alumacraft FDR), and this trailer came with it. All I know about the trailer is that its from the same era as the boat. The trailer is a little rough, but certainly solid--except the axle. As you can see in the pictures...
The question is in the title, just wondering if marine grade vinyl mean's that it is waterproof? Seems like a dumb question, but I googled it, searched for it here, and looked at the stickys and found nothing on whether it is waterproof from the store or if you have to use some sort of a sealer...
