The standard prop almost got 5500 rpm. But the new elephant ear prop held on plane better at 5850 rpm in a small 13 foot fishing boat lightly loaded. Hit some weeds in the shallows which got wrapped around the prop and I was surprised how it affected the prop at WOT. Figured it out quick enough...
Got a two hour test in today finally with the elephant ear prop and max rpm I saw was 5970 rpm. Most of the time it ran at 5850. Ran great and definitely at around 3500 rpm seem to be a nice spot for pushing.
Ran across my old scuba diving club boat we used in Lake Superior in the late 70's early 80's. Twin Mercury 50 hp on it. We used a shopping cart for the control stand and it was bolted to the wooden floor if I remember.
Got a super deal from a widow but she knew nothing about the history. The engine fired right up and ran strong in a water tank. Seems to have a good water pump (compared to others I viewed on YouTube). I changed out the lower unit oil and it leaked out a small amount of the the old lube on a...
Prop was delayed a week. Doubtful I can test until June 12th now. I did get the tach reading on the standard prop shipped with engine 7.8 x 8 and max WOT 5490 RPM was what I saw. I noticed I had to get on plane with the 13 foot fishing boat to get max RPM too. The new carb ran great for two...
Got the tach as recommended but no time for test until end of month. I'm seeing what they call an "elephant ear" 8.3 X 6.0 prop...the 7.9 X 6.0 not to be found yet. Be great to have prop and the tach for the test. Got a 10 day trip planned in August in Lake Superior island hopping and if the...
Yes I'm at sea level and plan Lake Powell next year being around 3560 feet above sea level. Factory prop is 7.8 x 8 three blade. I don't have a tach but I see they are reasonable in price and easy to use. Looks like I'll have to get the tach first and then probably drop down one step in prop...
Thanks for the replies. After reviewing them I decided to get a second carb and take the original, clean it, and install a high altitude kit for a Lake Powell trip on my bucket list next year. The new carb was a perfect fit but does has a slight hesitation when I open it up, but is fine if do a...
I bought the 6hp Tohatsu to use on my 14' SIB when island hopping in heavy waves, specifically, when trying to beach it and pull up out of the water to camp out. I haven't used it yet due to the weather has been fantastic so I kept the 25hp on. Anyway this spring when I took the 6hp out in a...
I've laid it down, I've propped it up with boat cushions, but with my bad back it seems to be just too much lifting or twisting in the back seat. I used this 2x12 and seems to be the least stressful on my back and it worked really well. Does anyone see trouble in this position. I can custom cut...
Got a big trip in Lake Superior next month chasing some tall ships around the Apostle Islands. Due to safety concerns with my eight year old 25HP I picked up a new Tohatsu 6hp. I'm thinking of attaching it to the aluminum bow seat unless anyone has better idea's on storage? I'll bolt an "L"...
I sold a 2010 12'6" 380 which was used about 25 times and last used summer 2017. I pumped it up for the guy and it still had zero leaks. Got a email telling me apparently they never even got it in the water. The weight of the 10 HP was enough to tear the transom off? I suspect he towed it under...
