I have 70hp 1974 Johnson. The local shops i have called have all given me different recomendations on what the best spark plug is for my motor. The last time this happened they gave me a set of plugs that killed the power pack on my 6 hp. What plugs are you running (if you have this year/hp)...
70hp 1974 Johnson. 17' aluminum fishing boat. I try to troll for tuna and cant. The motor will troll fine at just above an idle (6 mph), try to tap it up to 8 and it will run up to 12mph and settle. Try to come down and it drops back to 6 mph. When I move the throttle from idle to and stop...
I have a 17' aluminum fishing boat with a 1974 70 hp looper. WOT the boat runs 32 mph, at idle it run 4-5. When I try to troll at 8mph it wont, either it will climb to 10mph or it will drop to 5 mph. I cant get it to go 8mph. Would dropping from a 17 pitch to a 15 help this? I dont mind...
Decided not to fish and just take the wife and kid out for a day of tubing and knee boarding. So i pulled out the extra battery thinking no leaks so no need for extra battery. Dropped the boat in, ran for about 10 minute to the ski zone. Shut the motor down and notices a very very strange...
I am running a 70hp on a 17' aluminum. It set up for fishing (2 batteries, 25 gallon bait tank, 24 gal fuel tank. heres my question. I can currently hit 32 mph (14X17 prop) i want to be able to get up on plane and run at about 18 mph. will a hydrofoil/dolphin fin what ever there called help...
Not sure how to describe but my trailer axle has the ends turned down so the actual axle is lower then the wheel center. Can this be turned "up" to raise the trailer? Or will they just twist and rotate back down? I got a new truck and it too high. It drags the back of the trailer over bumps.
22' center console fiberglass. Brand new Suzuki 125 4 stroke and a 14X19 prop. WOT is only 3100 rpms and 10 mph. I was told it was just prop. if so and you follow the 200 rpm for 1 pitch ratio then he needs to go to a 14X8 pitch or so? sounds all wrong to me. I told him to double check...
My buddys outboard blew up 4 months ago and he just had a new 4 stroke outboard put on. Is the gas in his tank to old to use? It was empty and refueled the day it blew so it's exactly 4 months and 2 days old. Its not mixed it straight fuel. Would you run it or drain? If he drains it my old...
I picked up a 17' Lund w/70hp Johnson. With help from this boat I have gotten the bugs out of the motor and she runs great but now I have noticed the paint peeling off the boat. I dont like the paint to start with and was wondering what the best way to remove it was. If you have done this...
I had the 70hp Johnson which was making "milkshakes" in the lower unit. I posted some questions got some practical info. To make a long story short I couldnt find the prop shaft seal removal tool so I drilled small holes in it, used a small screw and attached it to my dent puller. With some...
I pulled the oil/prop seals out of the lower unit on my 74 Johnson 70hp last night. Made of brass, stainless springs and rubber. Very tuff stuff. I when i pulled the new replacement seals out of the package i almost fell over. they are pressed metal with rubber. they just look like they...
I am trying to replace all the seals in my lower unit to stop the milkshake effect I am getting. I was surprised to find that my wheel puller and all that NAPA had to offer would not work to pull the "shaft bushing housing you know, the casting behind the prop. Is there a part number for the...
I have a 1974 70hp Johnson. I am going to replace the seas in the lower unit. I found out my wheel puller I was going to use to pull the "shaft housing" out with will not fit. The hole is too small and wont go over the prop shaft. Is there a special tool for this? Any info is...
I am going to be replacing some seals in the lower unit and from looking at my manual I cant tell if the "oil seal" that is underneath the impeller floor plate go's in from the top or bottom. Anyone have any info on this? Thank you in advance and have a safe and fun weekend!
Scott
What is the best cleaner to put in a lower unit to clean out all of the "milkshake" from a leak that allowed the grease/water mix to happen? I have replaced the vent/fill hole washers and want to test it (according to a great post I was turned on to on this board THANKS!!)
It is still on...
