Replacing Alpha Gen 2 upper and lower housings

My upper and lower housings are starting to see major corrosion. The gearset and bearings are in excellent shape, so I'm going to switch all internals over into new housings. If all original bearings and gears will be reused, will I need to measure and reshim? Thanks.

    Car Tires ok?

In my experience, 25 years ranging from 3500-7000 lbs axles, I've found car tires have been more reliable and have lasted way longer than trailer tires. As long as the tire meets loading requirements, I don't think it matters. In my opinion, there's a lot of hyperbole out there in order to...

1979 85HP V4 with low compression (80psi) in all cylinders

Running well with 80 psi on those motors is not unheard of. Probably better for the motor's longevity imho to run on lower compression. Especially with fuel not being of the same quality as it was in 1979.

    Sea Ray tow

Towed 10k from Atlanta to Charlotte with a 2011 expedition, smaller gear ratio. Easy peazy. Wouldn't go higher than that, but did it flawlessly.

Do you know what this is? See pic.

Thanks Scott. Wonder why they added another lift ring on the head as there are 2 on the intake manifold and one on the thermostat housing.

Sitting in bilge after removing a 1991 4.3. Looks like only half of the entire part.

    My twin Optimax 150's sunk!!!

Writing this as a reference for others, who, god forbid, find themselves in the same situation. Results will vary of course, but I got pretty lucky in this case. Twin 2001 optimax 150's, sunk 3 to 4 feet in brackish water for 36 hours. Once recovered, immediately removed spark plugs and turned...
