Not a good start to the end of year or start of new...sigh..
Our pontoon somehow while in the slip developed a leak in the starboard toon (facing the boat) and is leaning pretty good. The engine is dead. Mech said rectifier. Can't change it over the water. So I need to have it towed to a ramp to...
Hello
Yep another Is this boat any good question. We have a pontoon and I am quite happy sitting on it out in the Gulf and drinking beer and blasting tunes. However the wifey wants to go farther out to fish. So we've been looking at boats. Driving me nuts. One day its she wants a Cuddy. Couple...
Hello
I need to redo my trailer bunks for my 24ft pontoon. I did some net searches on this and most posts are from 2004-2012 so I know some of the info is outdated as things have changed.
On my trailer now are 2x4's. I was thinking of going to 2x6's. Mostly for the feel of safety. Boat is big...
I noticed that the co-pilot (hope that's what it is called - the bar the engine sits on and goes left and right) is dry. What can I lubricate it with ? Is White lighting lithum grease good or is that to thick. ? a teflon spray ? WD-40 ?
Thanks.
Like to paint the cowling on my 1987 Mercury outboard. Its the two part split cowling. (Not the exact one as the attached image. I didn't have one of mine but pic shows what I am asking about.) My question is about the black leather like rough area. Not sure what that is exactly made of and how...
We took the flywheel off so we could replace the stator (is it stat or or sta tor pronouncation ?? )Was a mean ***** to get off. Turns out the threads are fubared up.
Not sure of my options here.
Add a washer or two to keep the nut just above it, ?
Just tighten it down as is ?
Not sure if theres...
After testing (by mechanic) seems that my switch box went out on my 1987 Mercury 70HP 3 cyl. The nuts are somewhat croded greenish. So figure to either replace them or clean them. I was wondering if I should get SS ones or brass or does it matter ? Or just clean these ? If so whats the best way...
We've been out like 9 out of the last 14 days. On the 4th we were out. After about 5 hours went to head back in and engine wouldn't start. Had to call BoatUS to tow us in. After checking several things it comes down to there is no spark.
I did notice that when we were going out that my Uniden...
I am going to have to redo my bunks. One the bolts are rusted through and two more importantly last time out as we were putting the pontoon back on from the ramp we busted one bunk off the trailer. I have read some posts and I think I am going to do like I read about cutting down the 4x4 vinyl...
So put the boat into today to test out the engine (Been working on it). When I went to reverse out of the dock it wouldn't move. The prop was spinning and seemed to be spinning good but no movement. I then moved the gear shifter to forward and we went forward so I put into reverse again and...
1987 Mercury OB 70 HP 2 stroke 3 cylinder. SN 0B228735. Not sure of the engines WOT or specs.
The prop is pretty beat up so thinking I should replace it. I can't find any number on it and the parts catalog didn't give me one. Not sure if its the original prop, looks like tho.
The Mercury prop...
Got the impeller repair kit in for my 1987 Mercury OB 70HP 3 cyclinder. So hoping to change it tomorrow. Is there any tips or tricks to changing it. I watched some videos but none were specifically this engine. . Looks like there's 4 bolts to unbolt it. Anyone hidden ones ? Also I thought I read...
1987 Mercury 3 cyl 70 hp OB engine. Getting it running and right on muffs. So far great on land :-)
I noticed tho that it doesn't pee till about 2000 rpms or about, doesn't seem to be while idling. Once it does start to stream its a nice steady hard stream and stays cool to the touch. But...
Can anyone from the attached pick of the engine tell me were the starter solenoid is ? I have searched Mercury's Ezwebparts and youtube and the net and nothing. The ezweb makes it look like its on the front plate but that makes no sense and I have nothing there anyhow.
I am getting just the one...
So now that the tachometer is good to go and its daylight out I am going to try to get the trim gauge working.
I have researched and searched it and I don't think it was ever hooked up. It has wires to it but don't think it was hooked to the sending unit.
I followed the wires according to what...
