    My 68 murcury 500 50hp is leaking fuel from the carbs. I would like to know is this a carb problem or a fuel pump problem or is there another problem that i don't know about. Just a little extra info the motor runs fine on land but when i put it in the water it runs for a short time and stalls...

    lower unit/gear box/pump

    we took apart the lower unit of a mercury 500 50 hp four, to service the pump and gear box. we removed the top gasket with no problem. the bottom gasket is giving me a problem any suggestions?

    serial number of my motor

    i've looked everywhere on my motor and i can't locate any type of serial number, it's an older motor. i believe it to be late 70's to early 80's can anyone help me with this!! ps it's a mercury 500 50 hp four
