In retrospect I should have. In diagnosing I try to apply logic. Since both the tilt & starter failed at the same time I figured it had to be the grounding. I assumed that it had to be at the motor since both the F200 & kicker were grounded on the same terminal. and since the 200 worked fine...
When I found the wire I attached it to the ground on the battery alone and everything worked. I then attached all the wires and everything worked. I don't know why only the kicker was the only one that did not ground. The nut was tight. The thing that threw me in the first place was that the...
I found the problem which was in a sense logical but not. I pretty much determined that it had to be ground since both the tilt and starter went out at the same time at about the same rate. I thought that it had to be in the motor since the main motor and kicker used the same ground. When I...
That sounds easier than it is. All the cables are bundled and wrapped. Obviously I thought of that. Everything is bundled and tied together inside the motor so it is difficult for someone who doesn't know the wiring to follow. I just want to know if it is attached to the starter or somewhere...
I just engaged my brain and solved the problem. I ran a cable from the battery ground to the motor and the trim and starter both worked fine. All I need to know now is where the ground connection is to the motor from the battery.
I guess I didn't fully answer your question. Right now nothing clicks. Everything is totally dead. A couple of times we thought we might have heard a click when we hit the trim button, but not sure.
Initially when this started the starter motor would spin, but not engage with the flywheel. A couple of time it did engage but did not have the power to turn the flywheel. I did a direct test using an external battery hooked directly to the starter and the starter operated normally so there is...
Still working on the issue. The starter motor works just fine when power applied directly to it. There has to be some point where power is directed to both the tilt motor and the starter motor. Ground sounds like the logical solution, but all grounding seems to be good. I'm getting over 12...
I got the picture now. I don't know where to go from here. I'm sure that this is where my problem is. How do I get to the actual hotwire going to the starter motor? Do I take off that black thing up and to the left of the spark plug?
I know where the starter motor is, but I don't understand why both the starter motor and trim motor lost power at the same time. What is the connection?
I am pretty ignorant of the wiring for the motor, but I do know what and were the starter is. What I don't know is where the terminal wires are to it. I thought that I might have to take off the flywheel to find them. All that I can find is what looks like ground wires that are visible on the...
