I put a new prop on last season and never noticed this but now that I have the boat out of storage I see the following cracks on the transom on the outer fiberglass.

I cant find the Merc piston ring compressor and need to get the pistons back into the cylinders on my 82 18hp. Does anyone have a tip on how it can be done without the tool and avoid breaking any of the rings?

I am having a heck of a time finding aftermarket standard bore rings for my 18. All the sites (if they even list a set for the 18) only show the Mercury listing for around $200. that is insane for 4 rings.
