I need to remove the engine because of problems (Water in #4 cylinder, water in oil pan, and who knows what else). Is there a post on removing engines?

I have a rotted oil cooler on my 1989 AQ311A. Volvo want $1,000 for a new one. Aftermarket can be found for $270. Do I really need one if I run in the cold waters of Massachusetts? I was thinking of jumping the fittings from the filter so as not to disrupt the flow of oil.

I need to replace the shaft seals on a DP-A. The bearing carrier doesn't want to come off using a slide hammer. Is this a part that needs to be sacraficed to get it off? Can I use a puller and pull against the prop shaft? Any sugestions would be appreciated.
