Hi All
Just putting my Glastron together (year 3) and can not seem to get the tilt trim pump to prime.
I had the hoses off for the rebuild in my signature; they are back in place now. They lost fluid in the process. So I need to refill..
Electrics work fine. And everything worked when I...
Hi Guys
I am re-installing a Cobra 5.0L engine on a rebuilt boat (see resto link in my signature) and cannot find where the ground straps on the transom plate connect to.
I cant figure the large end of the black insulated wire, and the open end of the stainless strap.
I read the black wire...
Hi All
Is there any difference? I am in the middle of a restore (see my thread below) and just wondering: :rolleyes: if i wanted to say farewell to the OMC, do I have to muck with the keyhole?
Already cut for the cobra;
Thanks
Chris
Hey All
A buddy of mine is interested in purchasing the this boat;
I really like the glass layup here;
Now he is not interested in getting into a full on restoration. So a principal thing is to determine the state of the stringers and transom.
The current owner says the boat is...
Hi All
As Wood suggested I am starting a thread to compile everything happening with this restoration.
Here is what she looked like before;
I started to repair the battery tray on the port side, then found the transom rotted, So I pulled the engine;
then pulled up all the floor as the...
Hi All
I am about to replace stringers in my Glastron. I am going to do that one at a time (so I have 3 to level up with at any time)
Now I am working from Sb to port. There are 4 stringers.
Before I pulled out the SB most stringer, I placed a straight edge on the hull under the stringer...
Hi All
I will be installing stringers soon on the Glastron. I read that they are not to touch the hull, but must float a 1/4 inch above to avoid hard points.
Now I see a lot of people use PL Premium as a bedding. Is this because it stays a bit flexible after is dries? And does that mean...
Hi All
Any reason not to use it in my '1990 SSV 199 Glastron for stringers?
Seems like rot resistance is on par with Honduran Mahogany.
I would prefer White Oak but can't find it in 12' length here.
Thanks
Chris
Hi All
I am deep into it. All decking (floor) is out, and now assessing the stringers. There are two short (about 3') stringers that run beside the engine mounts. They are rotted so I cut them out today.
Its the engine mounts themselves that are perplexing me. I drilled an explore hole near...
Hi All
1990 OMC Cobra with 302 Ford
I am in the process of rebuilding my transom. I have the engine out and all the drive / gimbal housing / transom mount off the boat. Basically down to the keyhole now. (surprisingly simple work)
Anyhoo... I got my transom mount out by sliding it through...
Hi All
Well, my transom is rotted and needs to be replaced. Good times ahead.
First step is to pull the engine.
Any links to images / videos for OMC guidance on pulling a 5.0 motor? I see stuff on Mercruser but have not found OMC yet.
Thanks
Chris
OK all you seasoned restorers out there...
If you were going to go on the used market for a 10+ year old runabout, who (what firms) built their boats "made to last"?
What were the companies / factories / era's that turned out well made boats, with superior techniques and craftsmanship...
Hi All
I have a 1990 Glastron SSV199. I am replacing some of the decking, and flotation foam on the port side, about 1/2 back to the stern. Did the starboard side last year.
Stringers, engine-mounts are fine. Yay. (Edit; no they were not - did not understand what I was doing at the time)
But...
