Depending on what you want to use the boat for as in how far and how fast if it was mine I'd maybe consider putting a 5 hp on it and save some money and weight. I'd think 5 hp would push it pretty good and the 5s are light and easy to carry opening up the possibility of not having to leave it...
Thanks, this makes sense. If I understand what you are saying correctly it is that the engine pumps the oil from the pan through the engine and then it goes through the filter. I can see that since as you point out the filter is on top of the engine. I'm glad that prefilling didn't hurt...
Thanks, I thought it was a good idea but it isn't mentioned in the factory VP manual. Hindsight is always 20/20 as they say and I started to worry that adding the oil to the filter canister might somehow cause it to over pressurize. Your experience makes me feel better.
Hi All, I hope you all are doing well and are either already on the water for this season or getting very close. I recently de-winterized by VP 8.1 Gi-J and changed the fluids and filters. I thought sharing my experience along with a couple of questions might help someone else. I followed the...
I have the Super Mabel tube and yes it is for sure a very large water toy. My grandkids like it because it is pretty stable for the younger kids when pulled fairly slow without sharp turns but it can also provide a pretty exciting ride for the older kids when pulled faster with sharper turns...
I had a 1985 Dynatrak Fiberglass 18' Fish and Ski with the 1985 Merc 115hp tower of power on it. It was my first boat and I kept it for 14 years. Never had a bit of trouble out of the Merc. or the boat. I ran a 19P stainless 3 blade prop and my boat would run low 50s WOT and was effecient at...
A Super Mabel will handle 510 lbs (rated) and will probably handle a bit more than that but I didn't say it. I purchased a Super Mabel last year and our grandkids love it. The Super Mabel is for 1 to 3 riders and the handles are set up so that a single person could ride in the middle and be...
I agree, replace your impeller at a minimum. I used a garbage can once to try to run my Yamaha 250SHO. I filled it with water and started the outboard. It cranked right up but didn't start peeing right away which wasn't unusual for the SHO. It is a low pressure high volume system. Anyway it...
Agree, and as my post with the hitch ratings shows, all adding the class 5 hitch would do (or at least I hope do) is to make me legal to tow up to the 9,300 lb limit of my truck without having to use a WDH to get over 5,000 lbs. If changing a truck from the factory in any way wouldn't improve...
Well I was afraid I would get this opinion. I will say this, I wonder how anyone can change anything on their mass produced vehicle with any kind of aftermarket product and not run the risk for liability? I mean if the Draw-Tite hitch has the specs I listed and they say it is for my truck...
I'm watching this thread, very interesting. Lots of great input and once again I'm impressed with how the members of this forum strive to provide help. I may be wrong but since the problem is consistent after 20 minutes and / or the engine producing more heat I vote for a vent issue followed...
This is all great input, thank you everyone. My research to this point indicates that my best most cost effective solution to be "legal" is to purchase a class 5 hitch with a 2" receiver opening and have it installed in place of my Ford factory OEM class 4 hitch. Draw-Tite has a class 5 as...
