I recently rebuilt the lower unit, magneto, and carb on a non-working 1957 7.5hp. After reassembling lower unit the driveshaft turned but hard. Other (smarter) members advised this shouldn't be the case so I pulled it apart again, visually checked everything seem to align and mesh properly...

I'm trying to get running a 1957 7.5hp seahorse AD-11. First time working on an outboard. I've got good spark and compression now, so moving on to the lower unit. What I know:
- It isn't from the AD-11. Is there a way to i.d. it? Or is it unimportant because if the housing fits the AD-11, does...
I wasn't able to get any reading between plug boot spring and frame. So I went through the following steps:
1) pulled the coil off, and took a reading between the spike that goes into the plug wire and the primary/secondary leads. Both read 4.25 kohm. I checked the other coil and that's 4.25...
Hmm…no coils are not cracked, and they also aren't red like yours crosby. Some parts are so clean I have to believe the previous owner did work on it, though he claimed he just ran it a few years in the late '90s and then set it aside.
