Chevrolet Perfromance 350 Long Block (new)

Anyone ever use one of these engines in their Mercruiser? There is not a Harmonic Balancer & Flywheel included. So there's a cost. The only change (that I can see) would be to pull the steel freeze plugs and install brass. Then just build up with marine-rated components. Of course, this is a...

    It's nice when people notice!

Been through a bunch of stuff with my boat this season. Gimble bearing nightmare. (check out post NO MOVE GIMBLE BEARING) Starter, Ignition Blah Blah Blah. You name it. Got her out on a lake Thursday. (yeah I skipped work) Had a blast with my nephew and his two friends. Dragged them around...

    NO MOVE GIMBLE BEARING (pic)

I Have used the OEM axle bearing puller. Made a great set up. Put tens of thousands of PSI on the tool. Tool broke. I had so much pressure on the tool that the hard dowel pin that holds the foot of the puller, sheared through the end of the puller shaft. Lot's of pressure to do that. Bearing did...

    J.B Weld Holding Gimble Bearing????

Not sure, but I believe the PO used J.B. Weld to repair the gimble bearing area around the 4 to 6 O'clock position. The reason I suspect this: I have used the OEM axle bearing puller that most recommend on here and I broke the tool. (some serious pressure) The bearing has not moved at all. I...

    Marbles in Bellhousing!

Hello everyone! Just got my 4.3L Merc running B-E-Autiful! Rebuilt the Carb. Refreshed the Ignition. Timed it like a Rolex. Took it out Saturday. And it sounded like there were marbles rolling around in the rear of the engine compartment. When the ship's wheel was put straight, the noise...

    Mechanical Vs. Electric Fuel Pump

Just been on here about my situation. My 87 4.3L "MCM175" engine has a electric fuel pump installed. Don't think it's original. But, The craft also has installed in it a RACOR water/fuel seperator in addition to the Quicksilver mounted on-engine water/fuel filter. Can a mechanical pump draw...

    Thunderbolt IV Question

Anyone know why the PO of my boat wired the Thunderbolt IV ignition amplifier directly to my Perko Bat. slector switch? He gave it a dirrect 12 volt source when the bats are turned ON. The manual shows it wired different. (right way) Anyone ever seen this? Is this a quick fix masking some...

    4.3 Mercruiser Distributor Mystery Solved

Got my 1988 21' Chris Craft Scorpion 4.3L, Alpha one end of last season. Took the craft out 3 times ran fine. But I felt there was something a bit off. I have worked on automotive engines for years with success and have done just about everything. Learned alot about marine engines over the...

    Mercarb 2BBl

Hello all, In process of rebuilding my 2BBL Mercarb. It's going well. This Carb is quite simple and I have had no trouble so far. One question: My Carb had the solid plunger for the needle valve in the bowl. The kit came with both the solid and the smaller spring loaded plunger. Merc says if...

4.3L to a 5.7L swap. Anyone done it?

:cool:Has anyone here swapped out a 4.3L V6 Mercruiser with a 5.7L V8 Mercruiser? I would expect the engine mounts woud have to be moved some. My boat had the option for the V8 and I know there is plenty of room. But is it a do-able project or just a huge pain in the butt? Johnny

    Mercruiser Winterizing Question #1,378,456

Simple question: If you back-fill all the exaust manifolds with Anti-Freeze, Do you run the risk of filling up a cylinder with A/F that might have the exaust valve open? Or is there a flapper of some sort that prevents this. I have yet to take apart a marine engine yet, so I am not sure.

Please explain exaust & water output - Alpha 1

I have some questions about running on muffs and about how, where and when the the water should flow. Mercruiser 4.3L V6, Alpha 1 drive. Ok, so the outdrive is down. Muffs installed. Water turned on. Start engine. Engine at idle speed. 1. Water should be coming out at transom plate holes...

    Removing a Alpha 1 and a 4.3L V6 from boat

I have an engine hoist of my own. I have taken out many auto engines in my day. With that being said, Three questions: 1. How much work is it to remove the outdrive from the transom? Average time needed? 2. Is it better to remove the lag screws that hold the engine mounts to the stringers or...

    Trim master Trim tab question

I have Trim Master Trim Tabs on my boat. Starboard side tab was not responding. I found that there was a lose wire in that absurd designed box that houses the pump and it's wiring. OK, fixed that. Now trim tabs work perfect. However. I found out with the help of my father that the trim tabs...

Explain how water pump in Drive works

Here is my question: How does the pump in the outdrive get it's power? Does the throttle have to be moved up a little and put into gear for the pump in the outdrive to run? In other words, with muffs on, water flowing to the muffs, and you are in neutral with the engine running, is the pump...
