Excess water coming from drain hole?

Thank you for the reply. It seems like it pees very slightly better with the replacement. For all I know it was doing the drain hole thing before and I just didn't notice. My dad actually noticed this time - normally I can't see that part of the motor from in the boat but he was standing behind...

Excess water coming from drain hole?

Did water pump repair kits on my main and kicker today. Yamaha 70TLR and F8. After doing the 70 I fired it up and telltale ran great, but I noticed a pretty serious stream coming out of the drain hole in the front. After doing the 8, not as much but water coming out of the hole where the gear...

    Tachometer reading half RPMs?

Thanks, I was finally able to pull my tach and behind the grommet there aren't those switches but there is a dial that selects either 4, 6, or 12 poles, and sure enough it was set to 12. I'm optimistic next time I take it out all will be well.

    Low RPM but good performance

Thanks everyone pretty sure I figured it out- it is the tach. I was finally able to pull my tach off the dash and sure enough there is a selector on the back that was set to 12 poles, and my motor is 6 poles. So I'm expecting it to read much closer to expected values next time I take it out...

    Tachometer reading half RPMs?

I have a yamaha pro series II tach for my 70TLR yamaha two stroke. I suspect it is reading half actual RPMs. The yamaha website states: "Pro Series analog gauges are offered in an illuminated, black-and-orange faceplate design. They’re engineered for those running F20 to F300 outboards". I...

    Low RPM but good performance

Thanks! I've been doing some digging and may have stumbled on the answer. My tachometer is a yamaha pro series II analog, and the yamaha website states: "Pro Series analog gauges are offered in an illuminated, black-and-orange faceplate design. They’re engineered for those running F20 to F300...

    Low RPM but good performance

My boat is an 18' alum bayrunner with wood decking and center console, 2007 70 HP yamaha 2 stroke main, 8 HP yamaha four stroke kicker. Current prop is OEM aluminum 13.5x15, with a small bend at the end of one of the fins being the only defect. WOT is only 3200 (spec for motor is 5000-6000)...

    Troubleshooting trim motor/relay

2007 Yamaha 70TLR. I can hear the relay click every time I push the button up or down, but the motor doesn't always engage. Used to just be it took a couple clicks and it would work. Sometimes now, in particular trimming up, I have to click it dozens of times to get the motor to engage. Once the...

    Adjusting shift cable 2007 70TLR

I have a 2007 70TLR. Shifts fine into forward, reverse I have to push the remote lever further than reasonable to get the shift lever on the motor to pop into reverse. No grinding or anything like that. I figure the cable needs to be adjusted, but have not been able to find instructions on how...

    Drain plug protruding?

The lower drain/fill plug on my 1987 15 hp Evinrude protrudes about 1/8". The level (top) plug is flush. Is this normal?

1987 Evinrude 15 hp fuel supply issue?

Since I first posted about this problem I have some more data. Engine starts easy, idles great, gets on plane no problem, then sputters out and dies. Then won't start for a few minutes. I just did spark gap test, strong spark both jump 9/16". One might have gone further but I shocked the...

Fine at idle, dies at speed. 1987 Evinrude 15

Recently bought a small skiff that came with a 1987 Evinrude 15 hp. Starts right up and idles smooth, easily gets on plane, then dies and won't start back up for a few minutes. Idles best with the rich-lean knob maxed out. Changed the spark plugs. Any thoughts? I'm new to outboards so pardon my...
