    Transom Hardware sealing issue

The lag is just what came in the kit. I would think it would have better pullout force into just wood than a wood screw but doesn't matter now. A wood or sheet metal screw will self tap into "hard as steel" Marine Tex?

    Transom Hardware sealing issue

I know the holes I drilled were blind. Nothing went thru.

    Transom Hardware sealing issue

I think the locations will be below the glassed in floor outboard or inline with the stringers.

    Transom Hardware sealing issue

Maybe the downrod didn't shift, the 5200 shrunk. What structural epoxy do you recommend? Since I don't think I can gain access to the inside of the transom I need to use blind hardware. Still recommend a lag bolt but in 316? How will a lag bite into the structural adhesive? Will plowing the...

    Transom Hardware sealing issue

That's what it came with. I don't know where I would be able to access from the inside if I drilled thru for nuts on the inside.

    Transom Hardware sealing issue

I installed a swimplatforms platform 4-5 years ago. Followed the instructions to the letter especially when it came to drilling and sealing the underwater transom support rods. I used 5200 liberally in the holes, on the lags and between the rod and transom. Its solid, I have no issue with it but...

    Sirius "Invalid Ch"

My 06 Four Winns has a Clarion CMD4 head unit with a Sirius Sir-CL1 satellite receiver. I enabled the radio using the number printed on the back of the receiver but when I tried it, the head unit would show updating then always ends up showing "Invalid Ch" even when I try the presets...

    Bunk trailer guide-ons mandatory?

My recent boat purchase came with my first bunk trailer. It has permanent guide ons welded to the frame. They are in my way while trying to buff out dull gelcoat and will be when cleaning the hull at the end of the season. I was thinking about cutting them off. Being the boat stays in a slip for...

    4.3 GXI won't run

I bought an 06 four winns with a 4.3 GXI knowing it had engine control system troubles. It will not fire at idle but I can get it to fire with 50% throttle. Once it fires I can only keep is sorta running by goosing the throttle continuously (almost like a carb that would only run on the accel...

    Gelcoat oxidation damage??

I'm bringing a badly neglected Four Winns back from the dead. The gelcoat was very chalky but it really comes around after hitting it with a wool pad and compound. What I am facing though is the dark blue gelcoat that is on front of the bow (close to horizontal surfaces) the gel has white...

    VP 4.3L Gxi

I'm going to look at a boat with a VP 4.3L Gxi, single prop out drive (SX? I'm new to VP). It's a 2006. Is there anything in particular on this model I/O that I should be looking at when considering purchase other than the basic odd noises, contaminated oil etc.?? Any typical problem areas that...

Heavy oxidation removal- Complete kit recommendation?

I'm in the process of acquiring a cosmetically neglected Four Winns that looks as if it never saw a coat of wax. The gelcoat is extremely chalky so its going to need a good cut. I plan to remove the decals and trim and go to town. I have a couple odds and ends and a rotary polisher that sounds...

Replace lounge seat with a "counter"

I own a 96 18' Rinker bowrider. It has the traditional old school layout with the back to back lounge seats on both sides, a seat on either side of the doghouse and of course the bow. USCG capacity 8 persons, 95% of the time there is only 4. A year ago we got a Black Lab who is now 95lbs and...

Carpet install using DAP Weldwood contact cement

I am replacing all the carpet in my boat and already have the carpet and 2 gallons of weldwood contact cement. For those who used the weldwood, how did you apply it? I know contact cement is designed to apply to both surfaces and joined after it tacks but there is no room for error once...

Need ideas to attach bowrider seatbacks

So the wood structure for the bowrider seat backs on my 96 Rinker are rotted to heck. The port much worse than the starboard due to a leaky mooring cover. I plan to rebuild using the starboard side as a template. The problem is, these clearly were attached before the top half was installed on...
