Since I am asking question today I have another one. We have a small boat 15' with a 1988 2 stroke 75 HP Mercury outboard. The engine is so load that the wives often don't want to go boating because of the noise. Is there anyway to dampen the noise to a more acceptable level. I was in a...

Thanks to everyone who helped me with my prop problem. Just to recap I had a 22" pitch on a 15 foot runabout with a 75HP. I went down to a 17 pitch and got my RPMS up to 5500 RPM recommended for the 1986 Mercury 75HP. Just one more question though. My boat rides really high when trying to...
I have a 1986 Mercury boat with an older steering system(boat is roughly 1978). The steering cable goes through the side of the boat then under the back seats and near but seperate hole from the gas and electric cable hole. The problem is the bracket that holds that steering cable is old and...

I do not have a serial plate on what I think is a 1985 75 HP engine. I found one number on the powerhead above the block it is 1021-8339 does anyone know if this is the number I am looking for, and if not where should I look for my serial number.

Hello Everyone:

I bought a Seloc book to try and change the thermostat, but I am having a very difficult time locating it(the pictures are not clear at all). Can someone tell me where to find it? It is a 1985 75HP Mercury Outboard.

Thanks,

Claude
How can I tell if my engine is hot. Should I install a thermostat. My engine is a 1985 75 HP Mercury. Also I also heard people say check the powerhead to see if its hot. What does that mean exactly. Same thing goes about checking the exhaust for heat.
Hello Everyone, this is my first post to this board.

I have a problem with my 1985 Mercury 75 HP.
1. When running out on the water, I touched the tell-tale and the water coming out of it. Is very hot. Enough that I can touch, but I probably could not hold my hand there for a...
