Can bearing housing be welded

I just snapped off one of the ears where the bolt goes in on the lower unit bearing housing. This is on a '78 15Hp Evinrude. Do you think it can be repaired? I have a feeling this is an expensive part.

    Clutch dog wear

I am just about ready to disassemble the lower unit in my '78 15Hp Evinrude. If the clutch dog is worn, should I be able to see the wear? Thanks.

    Prop slipping?

I've got a '78 15 Hp Evinrude that starts right up, idles and runs great at trolling speed but when I give it throttle, it clunks as if I hit a log or something. I've just put a carburator kit in because I thought it was backfiring. Some time ago, I read a posting in this forum that said the...

    Rebuilding 15HP (1978) carburator

I bought a carburator rebuild kit for my '78 15Hp Evinrude. The kit comes with a small cone shaped part made of plastic. The service manual refers to this as a bearing. When I took the old parts off the carb, I didn't see one of these down in the orifice. Would the engine have run without...

    Should I fix this?

This was worn by a roller in my Starcraft 14'. Do you think I should fix it. If so, what with?
Hole worn in keel

I have a 1970's 14' Starcraft aluminum boat that I bought used toward the end of last summer. When I took it off the trailer this fall, I noticed there was a 1" hole worn in the keel where it sits on the trailer roller. Do you think I should patch it with some J.B Weld or something similar?

    New bearings seem tight

I've just replaced and repacked the inners and outers as well as the rear seals on my wheels. I used marine grease and have the nut on finger tight. When I try to spin the wheel, it doesn't really spin but seems rather tight. Would this be due to the rubber on the rear seal? If so, does it...

Cutting water tube on 1978 15Hp Evinrude

Hello. I am converting a 1978 15Hp Evinrude (15855) to a short shaft. I need to cut the water tube back by 5". The area where I need to cut is up inside the housing about an inch or so. Am I going to want to take the housing off or just reach up in there with a dremmel tool?

    Cutting water tube

I am converting a '78 15Hp Evinrude (15855) from a long to a short. I need to cut 5" off the water tube. The cut would need to be up into the housing so I can't just use a saw blade or dremmel. Any ideas how to cut it.

Thanks.

1978 Evinrude 15 Hp Conversion to short

I just bought a 1978 15 hp Evinrude (#15855) and it has the long shaft. I need to shorten it back to standard shaft. I've located a drive shaft and shift rod. Do I just cut off 5" from the copper water tube that is hanging down? I was going to use a dremmel with a disc and then deburr it...
