Mercury OB195172
The upper shift shaft has ridden up against the powerhead and I could not shift.
A large flat screwdriver was used to pry the shaft down and I was able to shift between gears.
I'd like to find out why it happened.

Back story:
1988 Mercury 80hp 3cyl (OB195172)
Had problem shifting.
Removed LU / snapped some bolts. Fixed the bolt issue.
Shift problem was somewhere else which has since been fixed.
LU was off and laying on its side for a long, long time.
Put the LU back on today.
LU is stuck in forward...
