I've gone through this thing with new fuel tank, lines, battery, etc. I couldnt get it to start forever. finally I had the idea to give it throttle while starting it. It starts and runs above like 25% throttle. Whats going on? thanks for any ideas.

I have been trying to get this thing goin for wayy too long. IT will start for a few seconds and quit now. I've cleaned the carbs like 5 times but find another clogged hole usually. New gas line and tank. Should I just keep cleaning the carbs? I'm at my wits end here!
Ive gone through a whole bunch of stuff and almost have this thing running again after sitting 5 years. Now its starting for a bit when i spray gas into the cylinder removing the spark plug. But it wont start spraying into the carb. Could it be that clogged?
I'm trying to figure out why my engine wont turn over faster. When I jump the starter directly from the battery on my 50hp it draws so much current that the connection sizzles/smokes a little bit. Any thoughts on why its doing this? thanks,
Eric
hi, this seems like a great forum full of knowledgeable people!
I have a 1975 Johnson 50hp outboard with electric start only. For the first time in 5 years I've got time to get it going again. I got everything in place and turned the key, it cranked for maybe one second then stopped. since then...
