Hey, i have my 68 9.8 outboard completely apart except for the adapter plate. I want to remove it to replace the gasket but dont know how to go about it.
I think i can leave my gear selector in but I need to take off the CHOKE knob. Cant figure it out, theres a pin in the knob can it be...

Im wondering if anyone know hows to replace the lower shift shaft seal that sits in the bushing on my 68 mercury 9.8?
Its pressed in and have the new seal just cant get the old seal out of the bushing. any help appreciated!

So i pretty much got this outboard for free and was having really bad starting issues and coughing when at idle.
Ran perectly fine when in gear though no coughing.
Anyways I tore it apart this morning and found almost every gasket needs replacing. No big deal everything is already apart...

Just curious on how to remove the power head on my 1968 9.8 110. Do you have to take lower unit off and somehow reach through the entire transom to get to nuts? I have never done this before and want to make sure i do it right. thanks!

The problem I have is that the power head and exhaust plate start heating up relatively fast when running. I have replaced the impeller and unclogged the telltale( was clogged with dirt)...
