    One last try

Off the beach we called it "Jump Start", just the name we gave it back in the early 60's. Off a dock we called it just a dock start. One of the docks we used in Vermont, late 60's, was 4 ft. above the water. If a dock was available, we dock started, if a beach was available, we beach started, if...

    One last try

We called that a "Jump Start". We also did it off a dock or the bow of a boat.

Are these old D!ck Pope Water Skis any good?

The old Richard Popes from the 60's and 70's were a higher quality wood then the 1980 ones in your pictures. Restored Cypress Garden skis are all my family uses even though we also own a more modern pair of O'Brien and Connelly skis. The old flatbottom wood skis have a lot less drag allowing you...

    Barefoot skiers?

Learned to barefoot back in 1968, just shy of my 12th birthday behind a 13 ft, 1962 Glassmaster runabout with a 45hp White Merc at 27mph. Used just a ski belt back then. Continued footing till my 60th birthday, then kind of packed it in. One hospital visit in all those years with ankle...

    CHARGING QUESTION

My 1987/88? 90hp has always put out high voltage. 20 volt AC to the input side of the rectifier and 15-16 VDC on the output side. This was typical of my original 9 amp stater and my red 9 amp replacement in 2001. I do not have a regulator. Has never caused me any problems and I'm still on my...

    1988 transom bracket on a 1970 motor?

I think the diameter of the tilt tube is the same because I still have the original (ride-glide?) steering on the boat. If I remember correctly, the swivel bracket is narrower on the older motors. Thinking I could use some sort spacer to keep it centered on the tilt tube.

No water coming out the Merc tell tale now?

Spiders or bees have stuffed mud into my telltale many times. I keep a piece of stainless steel wire in my boat just for that reason. It can (and has) been used for many other fixes too.

    1988 transom bracket on a 1970 motor?

When my 1988 motor with 1400 hours quits, I'm considering putting a 1970 refurbished motor back on my 1970 boat. The only thing I want to avoid is drilling holes in my rebuilt transom do to the fact that the brackets will have different bolt patterns. Has anyone ever swapped out a newer bracket...

'00 Mercury 90hp, oil injection still works, time to replace it with premix or replace worn parts?

35 years and 1600+ hrs. on my oil pump. Replaced hoses with clear Tygon about 20 years ago and oil tank about 15 years ago because oil alert float switch failed.

    Mariner 90, Lost spark

Are you getting any voltage to the switch box from the stator while cranking the engine? That would be between the red and black, then the blue and black wires. No need to disconnect wires for test.

    Over charging

Keep a close eye on your electrolyte levels too. Especially in cells 1 & 6. I have gotten as many as 13 seasons out of a battery with the same charging set up you had. It was a Sears marine battery.
