Seems as thought they definitely learned something makes much more sense to run gear oil in a front axel rather than hydraulic fluid. I was just concerned about the difference in viscosity but figured running the 90w would just offer more protection rather than more wear on the gears. Thanks for...
I appreciate the information. I’ve done many lower unit oil changes always with the outboard vertical and always replace my drain plug washers with new ones. In this particular case I just wanted to make sure that this outboard was stored by its previous owner with gear oil and wanted to reuse...
Ya I plan on replacing all 3 lower unit washers when I change the gear oil. I just bought this outboard and the seller said he wasn’t sure if he drained the gear oil out or not which confused me so I wanted to check it and at least see if it had oil which it did.
Ok thanks I just wanted to double check. I just checked a lower unit from the top drain plug screw to see if it had gear oil inside. Planning to just put a new washer on and re install the plug.
Hi I know this may be a ridiculous question but better safe than sorry. can you remove the top drain plug screw from a lower unit and re install it with a new washer ?
So it just occurred to me that when I changed the impeller I did more of a quick job and just replaced the impeller and left the current impeller plate gaskets on because I was really just trying to trouble shoot the issue. Pumps water great but if one of the seals is leaking could this
lead to...
So it just occurred to me that I messed up and put that these numbers were after running when in fact they were before running dry cylinder. After running it my numbers were 127 top 131 middle 131 bottom. Seems fine to me.
So I had a feeling my compression tester wasn’t reading correctly. Bought a new test and tested today
(after running for 5 mins)
Top- 126
Middle- 130
Bottom-125
Ya I was definitely planning to get one and measure the temperatures of each cylinder while letting it idle on the muffs with a hose. Water is definitely cold from hose this time of year so I wouldn’t be surprised if thermostat is even opening even if the block feels hot. Thank you will update...
Got it thanks. Well I replaced my therostat and rebuilt poppet valve. After idling on muffs for a while the head seems to get hot. I a, only able to hold a finger on it for a second before it gets to hot. The water comin from the tell is cold?
Ah I see I thought it acted like the older style clutch dogs. Also quick question when installing thermostat on these motors does it have to be positioned a certain way when installing I forgot to check mine when I removed it.
