Bought a 1995 mercruiser 4.3 balanced shaft project engine or what I thought was a mercruiser engine but turns out it's a automotive block that was swapped in at some point because it still has sensor on the side of the head, oil drain plug off to the side, It was a real mess of an engine...
Picked up a project boat recently with the OMC 5.7 GM engine. I've pulled the engine out of the boat and it's on a pallet now. I'm trying to figure out how to jump across the main plug for the ignition to make spark so I can attempt to start this engine. I believe on the mercruiser plugs it's...
Does anyone know if I could ditch my TKS CARB and just go back to a standard electric choke mercarb while still using the TKS wiring harness? I've had nothing but problems with this TKS carb and am thinking about just purchasing a reman mercarb with electric choke. The TKS plug in the harness...
As sort of an extension to my previous post where I was having trouble with installing a new gimble bearing which was figured out.
We took the boat (2006 bayliner 175) out for a week long camping trip, the boat ran great except for at idle in neutral it would shake a bit and clatter at the...
Wow i feel like a complete idiot. I'm finishing up my 3.0 block swap and am at the tail end of the project. Motor is in, Today was gimbal bearing and outdrive installation day. I centered the bearing by hand and then with my bearing install tool i proceeded to smack it in. Unbeknownst to me the...
I am in the middle of swapping my 3.0 block for a good one. I am a little confused on how to re-install the EST distributor. I tried installing it and firing it off and it wanted to start but just backfired really loud. I tried that twice until realizing something was way off. I understand i...
I'm looking at a 1986 boston whaler montauk 17. It's been sitting on the side of a friend of a friends house unused since 2008. Motor is a 90hp johnson 1990 vro outboard that overheated in 08' which is why it's sat for so long. I'm told it runs, but runs rough and overheats, so I'm assuming it's...
Hello, now that I've got the main motor all squared away I'm turning my focus onto the 9.9 kicker motor. First thing I noticed is its in need of new throttle and shift cables. Looking on line for some it seems as though they have two different types one being listed as "cable" and then the other...
Working with my dad on a bit of a project he probably shouldn't have gotten into. It's a 1989 pursuit 2000 with a 1988 yamaha 200hp model ETXG. This boat has been stored and hasn't ran for 8yrs. The original owner who we got it from fogged the cylinders and drained the fuel tank. Amen to that...
I just acquired a 1989 Tiara Pursuit that has a Yamaha 200hp with 384 original hours. The original owner told me he fogged the Cylinders 7-8 yrs ago when he parked it. He also drained the fuel cell. Well It's time to wake it up! A few questions I have are: #1) should I rebuild the carbs before...
I just acquired a 1987 project boat that came with a Alpha one Gen 1 outdrive. I pulled the drive off and behold some U-Joints that are the scariest I've ever seen! Covered in chunks of rust, massive corrosion. just bad. So I bought a nice used yoke assembly online and by the looks if it, it...
Boat has sat for several years with the out drive in the UP position. would not TRIM down, so I took them off the rams and let some PB blaster soak for a few days with no effect. Still stuck. I tried hitting one end with a rubber mallet, went down a little with oil shooting out the lines, but...
After a bunch of work to this motor I failed to notice a drip that finally turned into a big drip that finally caught my attention. I just found out my 2.5 block had a crack in it up and under the manifold. Are there any options to repair it? The motor runs pretty good.
