    Merc 800 Lower Carb. idle screw

    '69 Merc 800 S#2559314 When I adjust the idle my upper carb idle screw will effect the engine performance but the lower one does not. Is there something wrong with the second carb or is that normal?

    '71/'72? Merc 800, S#2559314,<br />I have rebuilt the engine, cleaned carbs, check all electrical and replaced what was bad, new spark plugs/wires. When running out of gear it seems powerful; in gear, RPM maxes at 2000, very sluggish. Seems that the engine is not drawing in fuel at wide open...

    Serious Piston Damage

    71 Merc 800, 80hp. Pulled spark plugs to check condition, and found #3 covered in metal flakes the rest were a little oily. Pulled out crank and found the fin of the piston being pitted away. What could cause this? Except for carbon, all the other pistons were fine but #3.

    Damaged Rectifier?

    Got a 71 Merc 800. Been running poor, kicks in sometimes. Tested the rectifier; one of the leads from the stator had good continuity, the other had very high resistence. Should the engine be able to run at all in this senerio?

    I cannot find info anywhere, in manual or this page. What do the reeds do?
