I just pulled the lower unit off of a 1978 50 hp Mercury outboard. There are two shafts one bigger around than the other. I assume the fatter of the two drives the prop and the water pump. If that is correct what is the skinny shaft for?
I need to change my prop on a 50hp merc. outboard. never done this before. I took off the big nut but can not get the prop to come off, is there some kind of secret to this? I'm new at this so please be gentle.
