I have two 57 super sea horses, one runner and the other for parts. If it was me I would remove the recoil starts as you have electric start as they are really not necessary. In an emergency the flywheels are notched so just always carry a starter cord.
One for Racer here. I have just replaced the impeller on a 77 6hp Johnson and I'm wondering what the roll pin is for at the upper end of the drive shaft. It says on the diagram it's for 5 inches longer models which would be for a long shaft, which this one isn't. Any of your wisdom appreciated.
Hi all, haven't been here for awhile. Can anyone tell me What the readings for testing a coil should be,It's been so long since I did it I've just about forgotten the whole procedure.
I have been asked to work on a 1958 mercury but I am having difficulty finding any info, or even reference to this model. mercury don't seem to want to admit the existence of anything prior to 1962. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.
I would think so though I have no proof.I have 17 or18 outboards in my shop that I have worked on and /or rebuilt and though I do not have the vast reservoir of experience that you guys can muster I am not a complete beginner.Having said that Scott I will try new capacitors but the only thing...
The boat is bone dry inside and has no growth as it lives on the trailer most of the time
Ah,but condenser(capacitor) failure would surely lead to rough running and there's no sign of that, just lack of peak revs.
It was fine up until halfway through last year, still has same prop but I have tried with slightly smaller one as well. The boat is an elderly 15ft seaswirl. According to my GPS I used to get about 27 MPH but now lucky to get 8.
Good morning all. I have a problem with my 73 40hp Norseman that so far I have not been able to cure. The problem is: she starts just fine and runs just fine,no spits misses or hiccups until about 3000-3500 RPM and just refuses to go above that.Correct revs are I think 4500 -5000 without looking...
If you have a cylinder that stays dry you are not getting any fuel through.try removing the line where it arrives at the carburetor and crank over,if no fuel, pump problem. If you have fuel, carburetor problem. does your spark jump a 5 1/16 gap on your tester.
Not really a question but I have often wondered why they always say ensure the Impeller key way is lined up fore and aft with the # piston at top dead center.I always do it but don't know why or what difference it makes, this is onefor you Racer.
