1990 120ho force king pin question

A guy from South Africa replied on a different forum this is what he said: "The pre '95 Force engines used Chrysler design technology from the seventies with the commensurate problems. The swivel housing is one of them: if wear of the king pin bushings is not caught on time, the king pin will...

1990 120ho force king pin question

Since I did not get any relevant advice on my particular model I went on ChatGPT and apparently the 0.5mm between the king pin and the plastic bushings is excessive it is supposed to be 0.1 so lubricant gets through. 0.5mm will cause clunking and unstable steering. So I guess I have to find two...

OK I measure it with a wire gap tool and as I expected there is a 0.5mm or below space there, the 0.025 wire tool was not easy to insert so it's smaller than that.

5mm 5mm?! That's a lot. Mine are 0.5mm larger. But since I heated up the bracket to get the old pin out I am thinking that caused some shrinkage.

I bought another one from Ebay it's a Quicksilver I will see if it's any different. Like I sa8d the ones I installed are from Marine Engine. I didn't see a brand but was hoping they sell the right ones I did install the engine but it would be easy to remove at this point it's only the sealant...

1990 120ho force king pin question

Hey Jerry any thoughts on the new king pin and new bearing sleeve bushings having some play after install? Have not packed them with grease yet. The new king pin is the exact same measurement as the old one. The plastic bushings seem a bit larger in the id by 0.5 or so. Is this normal? Will it...

1990 120ho force king pin question

So I measured the ID for the new bearings is around 28.80.. The old bearing is 28. 28mm. So 0.6mm bigger on the new ones. The old and new king pins are the same diameter and outside diameter of the old and new bearings also measures the same.

1990 120ho force king pin question

I already installed the motor but not the drive. Is there any issue if I leave it like this? Again the plastic bushing sleeves when in pretty tight to the wall of the swivel bracket. The king pin itself has a little play in those 2 bushing bearing sleeves. So how can I fit anything on the back...

Yeah I have to remove the second engine also. I will look at Softseal. I like FluidFilm too. It protects pretty good. I will spray both and put grease. By the way whay grease do you use. They were both frozen in place. The motors were turning on the outside pivot of the king pin. I...
