5.7L engines with alpha outdrives (if you're considering twin powered on a 30ft+) are way cheaper in the end to buy with broken outdrive components and ill tell you why and give you the cheat code regarding these outdrives. It's all about gear ratio and year. 1991 and newer, every different...
I have been boat shopping in the Ontario Canada market now for 2 months and here is what i've learned about it. direct points no fluff. I've talked to over 100 sellers in the last 2 months:
1) Fiberglass boat market is down huge, aluminum is up
2) Most sellers are delusional
3) Too many people...
I'm not sure you read what you quoted before you replied. My post is asking for some advice or a scale score on how bad the cracks are in people's experience. It's not asking if i should buy the boat, how much i paid for the boat, nor does it warrant any other subjective opinion that i didn't...
Not interested in discussing the cost of the deal. didnt ask about that. there is more in the deal that makes it a good one.

I will not probably back out of the deal because for the price im getting it for, the double axle galvanized trailer would sell for double my price im paying for everything if i had to scrap the boat, but im looking for real opinions on what it is if possible rather than just if you would run or...
Looking to buy a 1986 sea ray sundancer 268 twin 4.3Ls off a guy where everything looks right, hes showed me great pics of everything, but he sent me one pic (below) of the transom and says these are just gel coat cracks and the transom is solid. i've not seen gel coat cracks like this before...
thanks for such a detailed reply. did you notice any issues trolling where it would wander side to side rendering you constantly having to correct the steering? or was it mostly straight
Short story - I have a 18ft bowrider that is a hybrid fishing machine that i like, but it doesnt promote the family to engage in boating as we are on lake erie or lake ontario (we trailer to both). the swells can be big etc. But i don't care to drive up north to use the trolling motor anymore...
