Hello everybody...I am looking at purchasing a 2007 Yamaha 20hp electric start four stroke outboard. It has 105# and 107# of compression in the cylinders. These numbers are with the engine warmed up.Is that near normal for these motors? I am used to 2 stroke motors that usually have 120# or...
I am helping a friend of mine sort out a 1990 9.9 HP Johnson and up until today everything was going great...until a pull on the rip cord ended with the rope not going back in. I assume the spring broke or maybe a spring retainer failed...any thoughts? We don't have a manual but I guess YouTube...
Hi everybody...I have a 1990 Johnson 9.9 hp 2 stroke that needs a new prop due to damage. This original prop has a reverse exhaust cup with slots on it where the exhaust comes out but from the pictures I have seen online the newer props just flare out at the end instead of cupping back with the...
I have both plastic and metal 6 gallon portable boat fuel tanks with no manual vent. What a pain in the rear!...especially on a hot day when the plastic ones swell up. They both can have vapor lock issues while the engine is running if the fuel cap is fully tightened but will leak fuel due to...
Hello everybody...I am working on a 1990 Johnson 9.9 that has 120 PSI in both cylinders, runs smoothly in gear to full throttle and idles nicely in gear. The problem is that while in neutral there is virtually no twist available in the tiller throttle to even slightly increase the idle speed...
Hello everyone...I was able to get a 1957 3 hp Sea King running yesterday after at least a decade of sitting. It starts easy, idles nice and runs smooth all the way up to full throttle. I did a compression test on it and got 75 lbs which compared to newer motors is quite low. Does anybody know...
Thankfully I didn't do this myself but I have a friend that has a 1957 3 hp Sea King that calls for 24 to 1 fuel/oil ratio. He bought fresh 93 octane gas today and used some 20 year old tcw-2 oil and the other half of the oil was new tcw-3....Can that be safe????
I need the hand operated speed control unit for a 2000 Motorguide 46 lb Hyperdrive/Energy 12 volt trolling motor. Bass Pro shop no longer carries this models parts. Thanks in advance! :)
Hi everyone... I have a 1995 Merc 75HP with a bad lower engine bearing. I found a 1993 75 HP Merc that runs great and is cheap..1K with controls and trim and tilt work great. Compression is 120 per cylinder. Would most ..if not all.. of this motor bolt right on to the 1995 that I have? Thanks in...
Hi everybody...I need to buy a new battery for my 12 volt trolling motor. I can spend up to $200. Any suggestions? I considered Walmart's top of the line battery for $100 but I have read a lot of reviews complaining of short life plus I would rather have a sealed battery if possible. Thanks in...
Sorry if my last posting was unclear...Any tips on changing a 1987 Mercury 150 HP XR2 V Maxx to pre-mix? Any thoughts in general as to if these are reliable engines?
Hi everyone....I am looking to re-power my personal boat with a larger motor. My hull can handle up to 150 HP. I found a boat/motor combo that would do the trick. The current 1995 75 HP Mercury on my boat was damaged due to an oil injection issue. The motor on the boat I am looking at is also...
I am considering buying a V4 to re-power my boat. I currently have a 75 HP Merc that is dying. This company I found sells about 100 V4 Johnson/Evinrudes per year. I know these engines were made for around 30 plus years. This company cannot guarantee which year I will get but I can specify a...
