I found what was making the noise lol I'll look into the adapter for a Merc outdrive. I'm going to take this up and get a quote repair, but I doubt they will be able to do anything.

HT32BSX115 So this drive shaft that goes into the lower end grinds VERY bad and is very hard to turn.
I have to pull this apart and see what is going on in there.
I believe you are correct on my mistake with the gear oil. I wonder what parts I need to replace this.
Here is the stern drive. If I put the boat in forward pr reverse, the propeller spins both ways.
I looked in the engine compartment and the linkage seems to be working, its changing direction. Not 100% sure where it needs to be for functionality though.
