Not at all!! As I stated at the outset, I know nothing!! So all the knowledge I can gain from here is greatly appreciated. Honestly, it seems the impeller is an inexpensive part to replace, so might as well get it done. Is there anything else you recommend?
Oh I see, it's unrelated to the shifter turning issue, but just something that I need to do as good practice on an old outboard motor. Do I have that right? Thank you so much, I will be putting that on my priority project list right now!
I hear you, and I will also be doing that. I am also just trying to learn all the ins and outs about this motor. Just so I better understand, what with this situation implies to you that the motor is overheating? It isn't getting hot at all, however is that not a symptom?

I know exactly what you mean, I was playing with that knob, so it would seem that I inadvertently limited my idle speed incorrectly. Just to be safe, you are referring to the knob in the picture below right?I will give this a shot on the weekend when I am back up there and report back.
