Can anyone explain how the molds for production boats are manufactured? Hull molds to be specific. What CNC machines are used? How is the surface finish measured for smoothness?

Has anybody used Mylar Sheets to place over wet gelcoat to get the gelcoat to harden? I am working on an inclined surface and it's hard to get all of the brush strokes out of the gelcoat. I want to use mylar to spread the wet gelcoat out evenly.
