    Retirement Financial Planing

Probably the most important thing is to start early. I know I wish I had started 40-45 years ago.

What is your worst day on the water?

Rafting down a normally benign river. Rains had the river high and flowing much faster than normal but still no rough water. We got caught in a tree and got flipped. The current pushed us under the tree. My buddy managed to get a hold of something on the bank but I surfaced a couple hundred feet...

    power loss and shaking motor

A bad prop or a bent shaft can make it shake bad enough to put a motor into limp mode. Of course, the prop needs to be spinning for that.

    power loss and shaking motor

I don’t think I have ever run one that hard without the prop spinning. Losing power at higher rpm is generally a fuel restriction. Most commonly a fuel filter that needs changed. But could be elsewhere or even a failing fuel pump. As far as the shake… no clue unless it just the exhaust gases...

    new to pontoons

I think the tag on the 25’ tri at work says 14 people. Some of that has to do with how it is configured. It is more of a weight thing than a number of people thing.

    new to pontoons

The third pontoon ads buoyancy so a tri would have a higher capacity than a 2 tube boat. I don’t have boats handy to compare placards.

    Non-skid for aluminum floors

I would use a no slip paint or paint additive. Wing walk compound for airplanes works pretty good. Much better than tapes if the surface is properly prepared.

Best way to fasten bow rails?

“Rivnuts eventually just spin in fiberglass BTDT, have two rivnuts that require someone to reach up underneath with a vicegrip” I have the exact same experience where they are used in aluminum. Even the rivnuts that have the tabs don’t seem to hold long.

Best way to fasten bow rails?

Interesting problem. The issue I see with rivnuts and blind rivets is they are likely to crush fiberglass while being set. They also need to be the correct length so knowing the thickness of the material is kind of critical. Fiberglass isn’t always uniform. Is the rub rail the mating line for...

    Over Voltage Condition

Cleaning the contacts is always a good first step. You can also use your digital volt meter at the gauge to see if the voltage drop is in the harness or the gauge.

How to remove pressed prop hubs before recycling

I just throw the complete assembly in with everything else when I head to the scrap yard. I threw a prop, lower unit and a lawnmower in the last load which totaled about 6800 pounds. I torn down a pole barn that was in very bad condition. I usually don’t have that much scrap.

    Need A Metallurgist's Advice

I’m not a metallurgist but from experience I would say aluminum will break and steel might break. A good welder could repair them if they break.

    GPS Speedo

I never noticed any performance differences between materials and number of blades but I don’t have a need or desire to squeeze every bit of performance out of a boat. Diameter and pitch make noticeable differences.

    Fuel system issues

The charcoal canister may be worth a look too. I expect wet charcoal could restrict airflow. We had one if those charcoal canisters fill with water. It took me a minute to figure out where the water in the fuel was coming from. The fuel vent could get submerged on a tight left turn and there...
