I'm trying to troubleshoot this 3.0 LX. Just rebuilt carb. Motor starts real easy, idles great, runs great on plane off the dock (with proper warm-up). Cruises the lake fine on plane at operating temp off the dock.
Then I hang out in a bay for an hour fishing. It starts easy...
For any future readers:
Upon further reading on my welding failure for those reading this in the future, it seems the bolt is stainless (3/8 - 16 x 1 inch) and my flux core welding setup did not have appropriate wire to bond to the stainless.
All great tips. I did not do as planed.
I got bold and attempted the welder. As stated, I'm not even a novice welder. Its my diy Achilles heel. I always took wood shop to make sailboat parts, lol.
I got the nut welded on about 3 times, but twisted off each time. Went back to what I know...
Yeah, to all of the above. I do have a small harbor freight welder, but I must admit my skills are pretty deficient. I dont want to blast a hole in my upper if I can avoid it.

I did it with the lower shift cable disconnected from the shift plate, and the cable pushed forward so the shift lever would line up.
With cable disconnected from shift bracket I'm able to put the boat in and out of both gears by moving the cable the cable and rotating prop with my foot.

Hmm, I'm not sure about visible threads? Where exactly am I looking for those? On the lower shift cable at the bracket?
I believe the slide set screw is correct.

Huh, yeah you'd think they'd give you a hose barb or something on the dang valve cover. It's even tapered to assist blowing off. Not a great design, bad even.
Looks like the earlier models have something like that, but I also need the fitting that anchors the throttle cable for the a Mercarb.
