That's old technology. In a good wind the center section can blow closed and break. Also, they are generally not used today because they break off just like you found out.
Many (most) newer boats use a hold-open clamp. Look at this...
My first thought was that you are backing in too far. In my experience, a huge percentage of new boaters simply have not read the "Trailer Boater's Manual", and thus are clueless on where to position the trailer.
But that problem is usually for launching. If you take water over the transom on...
Larson ceased production a few years ago. They were bought out by Polaris Industries. Contact them and possibly they might have company records to help you out.
Otherwise, try fiberglassics.com and review what old catalogs they might have.
A Larson All American was not a racing boat. If...
That looks just like the one on my Whaler. Most every boat I ever owned had a Taylor windshield, and it was etched on the glass. My Whaler's windshield has no etching nor a sticker.
Are you sure the sticker came with the windshield or was added later? Looks like you need to contact the boat...
My last 3 kickers were mounted stbd. Does it matter? Probably not. In my cases a port side boarding ladder made it the only choice.
Quite possibly the offset engine will tend to push to one side. Thus, having a connection to the main is a good idea. I make my own using QD fittings and SS...
My old boats have 1952 and 1964 outboards on them. Our local govmnt gave us E10 before they actually told us. I have never had gas problems, ever.
The only caveat is that all my motors are well maintained and garage kept.
I agree that if everything meets your requirements, why bother? But my professional career required me to collect data and justify my raise, so for me it was natural to apply science to my hobbies as well.
As a Professional Engineer, all this stuff interests me immensely. However, I MUST have data, and that's what I like to collect.
The data I posted above is quantifiable. Here's some more:
Hole shot - 3 seconds to plane.
The changes reduced the time to 30 mph from 9 seconds to 7 seconds.
Bow...
You are absolutely right that the proper propping tool is rpm. I just found it interesting that doing it also improved the slip. Is there a correlation? I dunno.
Welllll.....sort of.
Low prop slip equates to full use of your HP, plus optimum speed and good fuel economy. Now, if you are a racing boat that NEEDS HIGH speed, then all bets are off.
My SeaRay / 150 Merc OB came from the factory raised 2 notches on the transom, running a base aluminum prop...
I had a 1984 tandem axle TeeNee and it came with auto tires. They were 13", B78 or something like that. The boat never went more than 2 miles to the launch ramp. I had them for 20+ years with no cracking or any other issues. I know I should have changed them earlier, but up to that point I...
Back in the 1960's all the trailer tires I ever owned got flat spots over Winter and needed some driving to get them round again. They were all bias ply.
Move forward to the 2000's and I don't see that any more. Did they get better? I dunno.
