I been fighting this problem for a couple of years. If I accelerate slowly, The engine will run good and then die at around 2100 rpm, If I go Full throttle, Most of the time it will take off with lots of power and run great above 2300 rpm. I replaced the charge coils, rebuilt the carburetors...
I have a 1989, 85hp Force. When cold, it works perfectly, When warmed up, it works good up to 1800 rpm but starts to sputter above that and dies before hitting 2000 rpm. I changed the stator because the resistance reading were marginal. Checked out the fuel system for clogs. tore apart one...
